Feeling blue

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I've been feeling sad lately not sure why. I think it's the weather. It's super gloomy. Rainy and chilly. What could possibly make me feel better I thought? Nothing really. Then I found myself listening to Blue Suede Shoes and it became so perfectly clear. I need blue shoes. I've been on a blue kick lately. Over the holidays I purchased Charlotte Olympia's Luna-Moon Face Pump and most recently I received a pair of denim Isabel Marant sneakers. So I've narrowed my choices down to these. What do you think?

DIY: Bow Tie

Sunday, February 10, 2013

This DIY was inspired by my sister.  She made her boyfriend a bow tie.  A real one.  I decided to make a "pre-made" bow tie.

1. Measure fabric 8 inches long by 6 inches wide for back bow.
2. Measure fabric 7 x 4 inches for the front bow.  I wanted my bows two different sizes.
3.Measure another strip to your neck measurements (this will go around the bow tie and snap in the back).  ie: my neck measures 13 inches (add an inch) so cut a strip 14 x 2, fold in half and sow to have a strip that will be 14 inches long and one inch wide.
4. Add snaps to the neck strip (click on link on tips on how to add snaps).
5. Measure another smaller portion to join both ties together.  I ball parked this one.
6. Fold fabric from step 1 and 2 as shown in Figure A.
7. Sow each strip as shown in Figure B.
8. Fold the sides in as shown in Figure C.
9. Sow each tie down the middle as shown in Figure D.
10. Superimpose the two soon to be bows as shown in Figure E.
11. Gather the bows with the small strip as shown in figure F.
12. Sow the back of the strip F-1.  Sow it loosely so that the neck strip can go through
13. Pass the neck strip through the back of the bows.  Sew on tightly.
Voila!

I hope the pictures help clarify the steps.  It's pretty easy.  What do you think?

Neutrals

Thursday, February 7, 2013

I spent the day running errands so I wanted something casual and comfy. One of my New Year's resolutions was to stop wearing sweats to go out in public so I opted for this instead. What do you think?

"Who are you?" A tale of a brief yet memorable encounter

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

On a birthday trip to NYC two years ago I saw the most beautiful smile I've ever seen outside my window.  V was driving into New York City and there she was.  Hillary Swank.  She was walking her dogs.  I was star struck, even though I didn't meet her or ask for an autograph and I was inside a moving vehicle it was still very exciting.

I sometimes run into celebrities out on the street.  Sometimes.

The date was October 2011.  My girlfriends and I were in Puerto Rico for a bachelorette party.  The first night we decided to take a cab to Old San Juan.  There he was.  Crossing the street.  One of the most talented men I have ever met.  Benicio del Toro.  I literally spotted him from a mile away.  I ran as fast as my little legs could carry me and I caught up to him right before he entered a bar.  I was so excited.  Now this wasn't creepy at all.  I grabbed him by the arm and said: "You're Benicio del Toro.  I've never seen Traffic but I love you.  You're from Puerto Rico and you just had a baby with Kimberly Stewart!"  OMG.  The horror.  His response was: "Who are you?"  I think he thought I was with TMZ.  Needless to say my friends finally caught up to me and took a picture.  I don't think Benicio remembers me at all as we only met for a few minutes but I am so embarrassed.  Why did I feel the need to recite this man's own life to him? He's he, he knows his life.  He doesn't need me to remind him.  Hashtag Fail.

Benicio, if you ever read this I just want to apologize for creeping you out bro.  I hope our paths cross again so that I can have a proper conversation with you and perhaps buy you a drink of sorts.  Si?
