Club 304 est. 2012

Monday, April 30, 2012

This weekend was V's 34th birthday! He and his friends hate going to the club on a regular basis. He says it's because he hates waiting in line for the restroom and because he wants his drinks on demand. He's just over the whole scene since he started clubbing at 16.  So this time I decided to bring the club to us. What I did was rearrange our furniture, broke up the sectional and moved our dining room table against the wall to open up the area. I bought blue and silver balloons and I changed out our light bulbs to blue and red ones. I had Greek food catered, bought an ice luge and bought tons of liquor! I have to say I was quite pleased with the results and everyone had a good time. Maybe I should consider a career in house party planning. :)

Primordial Instincts

Monday, April 23, 2012
Recently I had a very interesting conversation with a stranger I met on the metro. The climactic point of the conversation came when discussing man's instincts.  An interesting concept was posed: Can it be that our anger and our violence stems from the consumption of meat? Red meat.  Absurd? Perhaps not.  I, for one tend to be very temperamental. I also happen to ingest a lot of meat.  When I first met V he said to me: "I've never met anyone who loves steak as much as you do."  The Nuer tribe's diet consist of mostly beef.  They also happen to be warriors, fighters.  My husband is Mediterranean and his diet consists mostly of salads, vegetables and fish.  He is also very calm and rational.  The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is rumored to be a vegetarian.  I do not know him personally but I am certain he is super calm.  Can it be that my carnivorous nature is what triggers so much of my anger and my need to attack?  I looked for studies and I could not find any conclusive data aside from the obvious ie: higher mortality rates.  I am not sure if my theory is correct but I have decided that for the next month I will not eat any red meat.  I will keep a journal and track my journey. After all I was trained to practice evidence based medicine so why not?  Who knew that class would be so important?  All I've ever wanted is inner peace maybe this will be the answer.  Also, no one can guarantee that the meat we are ingesting is free range or grass fed only, a lot of that cattle is injected with steroids and hormones and we are eating that meat hence also ingesting those same steroids.

Not convinced . . .

Sunday, April 22, 2012
My friend Y has mentioned on several occasions that I resemble Christina Ricci.  Today I was trying on a dress and the sales woman said the same thing so I thought "hmmm, maybe I do."  I came home and the hubby and I cooked dinner then we decided to go out for a drink.  We've had a long week.  I decided to bring out my clip on bangs and check out the crowd's reaction.  Three people came up to me and said I looked like Christina Ricci.  Maybe I see a slight resemblance but I'm not convinced.  What do you think?  My bangs are clip-ons.  My hairstylist has made it clear on several occasions that I should not cut my bangs because my face is too round.

Fabulous Shoe Saturday

Last Saturday was the best day. I went to work. 9 to 2. Went to lunch. Had pho. Paid a visit to a special friend and finally went to the outlet mall. I pride myself in being a bargain shopper. I will clip coupons, look for online codes and wait for sales before I purchase something. The Neiman's sale is coming up at the end of May. I'm excited! The Gucci sale is coming up in June. Super, duper excited. Now that I'm 30 I've decided to elevate my style to the next level. I cannot walk out the house looking like a bum. I loooooove sweats. I have a close friend who says her boyfriend doesn't like it when she wears sweats. That's going to be me 24/7. No sweats. No bueno. Anyway, back to Saturday. I bought 4 pairs of shoes for less than nothing. I won't tell you how much that nothing was but I got a good deal. I bought a pair of Elizabeth and James. The Mary Kate and Ashley brand. Named after their sister, Elizabeth Olsen, who happens to be one of my recent faves! And their brother James, who I don't know because I don't think he's famous. A pair of Stuart Weitzman cork peep toes. I love cork. I love wine. A pair of Balenciaga thong sandals and my most fave a pair of Lanvin heels. I love Lanvin. I love just saying it. People ask me: what are you wearing? And I respond with: Lanvin. Loove. I have not worn any of these shoes yet but I hope to soon. I'll keep you posted.

Whip it!

Thursday, April 12, 2012
V surprised me on the last day of my birthday with Drake tickets.  Yesssss! Since then I've been on a mission to find a Chanel belt bag.  I went to Chanel several times and they are not making any! They did at one point but not anymore.  I've been scouring numerous websites and ebay to find one and I did but . . . I don't have an ebay account.  I know!!! Who doesn't have an ebay account?! V has one but I didn't feel comfortable asking him to get it for me.  Instead I decided to make my own! I made it out of an old Tory Burch tank top.  I know! I love Tory Burch but I hadn't worn it since October 15, 2009 and it's not lined so it itches.  Instead of donating it or selling it I decided to reuse it.  Here is the break down.
1. Draw the pattern on tissue paper then cut it (my mom taught me this).
2. Trace pattern out on the fabric about one inch bigger than what you want to incorporate the sewing.
3. Sow the pattern
4. Line it with felt.
5. Line with pipe cleaners to give it form.
6. Sow 3 loops in the back
7. Hook through a cute belt.
voila done!

The next time I am going to cut the pattern our of the felt then line the inside and outside then stitch.  :)
It sounds pretty easy and it is but it took me about 3 hours total to complete.  I am going to make another one. This one is super cute but a bit rough.

After this post I need to re-visit how to write "how to" papers.  :/

Channeling Katniss Everdeen: OOTD

Wednesday, April 4, 2012
The last 9 days have been a blur.  Why? because all I can recall is working and in my free time reading.  I have been obsessed with The Hunger Games trilogy.  Last night I finished Mockingjay.  I was so obsessed with the characters and the story line that I could not wait to finish.  Today my hubby and I decided to go out for drinks and after I got dressed I thought to myself: I think this is what Katniss Everdeen would wear on a normal night if she wasn't off killing people and planning a rebellion.  Am I right or am I just obsessing?  I like to dress comfortably  so I opt for easy, comfy choices.  I go for the leggings and boots because even though it is April 4, it's 55 degrees outside.  Top: BCBGeneration.  Leggings:Zara. Boots: Tory Burch.  Purse: Rebecca Minkoff.  Gold Cuff: House of Harlow.
