Celebrity!

Wednesday, November 14, 2012
I'm leaving the DMV, not the Department of Motor Vehicles. I'm leaving the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. Collectively known as the DMV. The hubster and I are moving to Houston, TX. My birthplace. A palm reader recently told me I was going to die in my birthplace even though I wasn't supposed to. Ahhh! That's not why we are moving. We decided to move a year ago and the date is right around the corner.

I'm looking forward to moving back home for several reasons. To be close to my family, start a family and start a practice. Those are all great reasons but I'm especially looking forward to resuming my celebrity status. That's right. I used to be a small time celebrity back in the day circa 2003-2004.

For my 18th birthday all I wanted was to go to a club but my dad didn't allow it. He didn't let me go to "the club" for the same reason he didn't let me work at wings and more with my friend GG. He said that men would hit on me, I would get pregnant and drop out of school. Finally when I had enough courage to ask my dad for permission to go out on Friday nights I could only go to the movies, a party, a wedding, bowling or a quinceaƱera. I had to be home by 2 AM.

When I was 21 and 2 semesters from graduating my parents seemed to loosen up a bit. My friend PGL and I would hit up party on the plaza on Tuesdays, R&R Thursdays, Spy Fridays and M bar Saturdays. We would go to other places too of course. ODPhi parties were our fave! If there was something happening PGL and I were there. Trust.

I left Houston when I was 22 to pursue my dreams. I moved to Philadelphia for grad school.

It was a few months before I went home again and one day I received a call from PGL who was on her way to her Mexican American studies class. I never took that class because I'm Mexican American and I pride myself in knowing everything about my culture. I know both Cesar Chavez, the civil rights activist and the boxer (Julio).  Anyway, she was on her way to class and she was stopped by a random girl who asked her one simple question: where's your little friend?  She was asking about me!!! Apparently she was used to seeing us out and she hadn't seen us in a while and she missed us. Celebrity.  One fan.

I'm 30 years old now so running the club circuit doesn't seem like something I want to do so instead I've decided I'm going to do more philanthropic work, go to the ballet, go to charity galas and fashion shows at Tootsies. Maybe become a chair of sorts. I shall do all of this and stay a wife, become a mom and maintain a thriving practice. God Willing.

Wish us luck!

Sax-y

Monday, November 12, 2012
Sax brings the sexy back to DC. We were there Saturday night for dinner and drinks with friends. We enjoyed the dancing. There's a 20 ft infinity stage where dancers with strings of pearls hanging from their breasts dance throughout the night. The dancing's classy and entertaining, burlesque to modern ballet and some classy pole dancing.  The chandeliers and red and gold velvet sofas make it for a classy feel. Sax labels itself as a French restaurant. I had the lobster sliders, truffle fries and mac and cheese. Not very Frenchy but maybe I missed part of the menu. The drinks were good and the ambiance was great.  Next time you find yourself in the district maybe you should check it out.  It's not your typical Dupont circle crowd either so you won't find a lot of twenty somethings looking to bump and grind or get WGW.  I do love Dupont circle though but sometimes I have to class it up!

Do you believe in magic? I mean ghosts.

Friday, November 9, 2012
I'm not one to believe in the super natural. Growing up my dad always said: you should never fear the dead, you should fear the living. Which makes complete sense. What's a ghost going to do? Pull my feet? That's what they do.  Isn't it?

About 6 years ago I had a dream that my deceased grandmother was watching over me. She was sitting next to me on my bed. It was just a dream, right? I woke up suddenly and my roommate was sitting there in the exact same spot my grandmother was sitting in. It was just like my dream. Everything. The stillness. The darkness.  My mom thinks my roommate was sent by my grandmother to take care of me. Perhaps. I'm not sure but I'm grateful she was there (I was going through a hard time then).

Last night I felt a presence again. It was a young boy in a wheel chair rolling away from my bed and to the door. I woke up with no one there. Duh! What was I expecting to see? I'm not Haley Joel Osment.

Sometimes I feel like there's someone walking next to me or as if there's something missing. I can't explain it.

I lived in an old Victorian in Philly.   My roommates and I lived in the old maid's chamber. The owner's wife, L,  swore it was haunted. Every night I heard footsteps right outside my door. My roommates heard it too. Not to mention L filled my head with stories. She claimed the piano would play itself at night! So creepy.  She also said  she saw green smoke in the living room.  Really? Was I on an episode of Lost?

I haven't made up my mind. I don't know how I feel about spirits or ghosts or any of that. Do they exist? Is someone trying to send me a message? Should I call the long island medium? Hmmm.

I'm Mexican American and in Mexico we celebrate "El dia de los muertos", Day of the dead.  It is celebrated November 1st and 2nd.  People cook the deceased's favorite food and lay it out hoping their souls will come out and hear the prayers and to hear the living's conversations directed towards them.   I don't know what they do with the food afterwards.  Someone asked me that the other day.  I've never actually celebrated El dia de los muertos but my relatives have.  If you live in Texas, California or Arizona I'm sure you're familiar with the day of the dead celebrations.

Anyway, it's 12:35 AM and the phone just rang! Ahh, it scared the bejesus out of me.  I guess it's time to go to bed.
